The Digital Library for the Enlightenment - The Spanish Novel

The DIGITAL LIBRARY FOR THE ENLIGHTENMENT – THE SPANISH NOVEL, a collaborative project between international scholars, will create an online digital research library of literary and bibliographical materials of the Spanish novel of the Enlightenment (1700-1850), which appears to offer little continuity and suffers from major gaps in documentation. This scholarly collection will reconstruct the canon for the 18th-century novel in Spain and, in combination with an extensive critical apparatus, it will constitute a quality reference work and research tool in the field of Eighteenth-Century Studies.

The result is a model that shares, examines, and interprets humanities collections in new? ways, provides insights into the modes of production and consumption in the literary marketplace, and fosters research on the significance of these novels. Powered by a relational database and coupled with a user-friendly interface and robust search mechanism, this reference-research tool will serve a broad and diverse community of scholars by providing open access to a major collection of literary manuscripts and bibliographical materials. In the long term, the team envisions the project to be part of the richest and most authoritative electronic source for Eighteenth-Century Studies, with access to core collections of digitized primary texts and useful web resources in the field. This digital library will become indispensable for specialists in the field of Eighteenth-Century Studies who work on the Spanish novel and on the novel in other literatures, for major international research libraries and research institutions.
